  1. Good to hear you are mobile, see you Sunday.
  2. If CASA play the game and give the approval, there might just be a display of a 30% scale model of Matt Hall's race plane:whistling: Should complement Matt's own display well.
  3. Sure will. Are you going to make it or are you still half legless?

  5. I've had one go after only about 100 hours. I can't remember the numbers, but it was putting out only what was being used, so while it would run everything, no charge was being put into the battery. Every time we started it took a little more out of the battery that was not getting put back in while running. So after so many starts there would be nothing left - flat battery. Put a charger on it and the battery would come back up fine, but after another X starts would be too low to start. After replacing it we took all of the resin out of the back to expose the circuit board and found a dodgy solder joint.
  6. Those gravity gusts can be a real b*stard!
  7. Channel 7 reported last week that Toowoomba received 50 metres of rain in a day. I know we are all capable of a slip of the tongue but surely this stuff should be picked up by producers & editors?
  8. Interesting to note the different RPM on the Spitfire & Hurricane while in formation together. This pair do have different engines though as the Spit is a late mark with a Griffon engine & the Hurri is a Merlin.
  9. Great idea Ian, remember when this was what the forum was all about? My last "flight" was Gladstone to Temora for the Warbirds Downunder airshow. Great show, warbirds galore as you would expect. Grand finale was a formation of Mustang, 2 x Spitfires, Meteor, Sabre & FA-18. Also fitted in catching up with several friends & a baked dinner at Mum's place. 15.4 hours of flying in the Skylark over 7 legs & not one headwind. For me, flying does not get much better than this.
  10. I flew a 172 out of Queenstown in 2010, we landed on the grass cross strip & even that was interesting. You can't see the strip until the end of base because of a hill. The instructor with me basically told me where to be for base and said as soon as you can see the strip it's time to turn final. That was the best flight of my life, sight seeing amongst the mountains for an hour, great fun.
  11. Descent into Queenstown, New Zealand. Gotta have faith in your instruments and your proficiency to fly the approach....if descending into an undercast over mountainous terrain doesn't bother you too much. http://www.chonday.com/Videos/pilotnewzdalnd1
  12. "To Fly & Fight" by Bud Anderson is an interesting read. Bud flew with Chuck Yeager both during WWII and afterwards as a test pilot. The combat stories are good, but some of the testing they did is really fascinating. I have an autographed copy of this book after meeting Bud at Oshkosh in 2008. I have also just finished "Hustling Hinkler", the story of Bert Hinkler. It is a good read too.
  13. HH when has my wife navigated for you????
  14. "We need to turn right................... back there!?!?"
  15. Try this one at Maryborough - http://www.proskymaryborough.com.au/ You will find them really good to learn with.
  16. Years ago I witnessed a lolly drop done at a school fete with an RC model. It was a really windy day & not enough allowance was made for the drift. This resulted in the majority of the lollies landing in the backyard of a house adjacent to the school oval. Picture a rabid pack of kids scrambling over the fence at high speed, only to start back-peddling mid air (cartoon style) as the kids realised the yard contained a large & not so friendly dog!
  17. Here is a link to where this was previously discussed in the Sportstar section of this forum - http://www.recreationalflying.com.au/threads/sportstar-crosswind-capability.8231/
  18. This has been discussed here before and specifically in relation to the Sportstar. That figure is given ( as is required by American LSA regs ) for landing with full flap. In reality you would not use full flap in a strong crosswind. The Sportstar is capable of handling much more than 10 kts.
  19. Seeing footage of the wreck on the news tonight it does not look like an attempt to put down. The degree of damage looks more like it has flown into the terrain. RIP.
  20. While I was aware of this, it seems some (too many) are not. Might be a worthy topic for a thread of it's own to bring it to the attention of more people.
  21. Mick

    the foxbat

Hey Matt, The aero club at Port Macquarie has had a Foxbat & a Eurofox For the last few years. They have just sold the Eurofox & are replacing it with a CTLS.
  22. By the photo I know the aircraft from when we were living in Bundy. Sad news.
  23. Somehow missed this post. Yep that is incredible. I am normally not a fan of jets, but that is truely spectacular. An absolute credit to the builder.
  24. As far as I know Lady Elliot is only available to their own aircraft that fly guests in to the resort. From what I am told they previously allowed other aircraft to fly in, but after a couple of incidents they stopped that.
  25. That is impressive. I can only hope that when that happens to me I can remain that cool, calm & collected.
