    All my car gps's have failings. One always tried to take me off the hwy at the same place every time and another time went north instead of south. Another got completly lost in the country.That is rare and an inconvenience unless you are flying.

    Reading the posts, the carby head method is described as "working most of the time" and if certain engine control procedures are carried out. The same applies to most Rotax 447 and 503 without any carby heat and the carby is in the full airstream. They do come down due to icing.

    With that cost of hangerage like that there will be a big effort to make trailers and folding wings for every ultralight. Local hardware stores will run out of door hinges of every type.

    All sorts of sneaky things happen on farms etc miles from "civilization", based on my aircraft search activities.

    Must be a big market for these with so many designs. One I saw at Oshkosh used a flying parachute and had a max crosswind of only a few kts. Some of the bumps around my place make my car airborne for nothing.

    A lot depends on what type of "soil" you are going into. If it is solid granite, then a 50mm dynabolt would do; if it is wind blown sand then get a miners hat.

    Up into the dark concave of a developing cu in a glider is scary. You cant see the horizon, the air is damp and suddenly icy cold. Gliders have been sucked up into them with nose pointing vertically down. Too much even for a disney land ride.

    Seems normal ailerons would produce sink as well. Drag on the up going wing and drag from the rudder to compensate.

    It was a sreamline brick with very high wing loading. They wern't looking for thermals

    Guess there are no cyl. heads to crack on those a/c. Idle throttle, flaps, spoilers, air brakes, side slip-as long as done at limiting speeds.

    I like the idea of automatically compensating for aileron drag and using them as speed brakes as well

    Anything that buries itself into the ground is only as strong as the ground. Think you need to go down about two meters which means carying around a bore driller.

    The guy flying into the firing range probably thought it was a military salute for him.

    A Sapphire I used to fly was like a tumble dryer. The rule you could not fly above 5000 feet without approval applied then, don't know now. As said fly as high as possible and dont let cloud cover force you IMC

    Just keep flying the Jabiru and you will get an automatic reduction in compression, without trying.

    If you want to 100% safe, strap a few parachutes to yourself and a few to your plane with one leaver to activate them all. If a few don't work, the rest will float you down.

    In flight fire would be another reason to just have a personal parachute. Though those rear engine planes make good meat grinders. Rutan claimed if you exited the Varieze you would drop clear of the prop. A live demo would convince me better.
