    Interesting idea to index aircraft types and their peculiarities The human peculiarities of the pilots prbably can have a lot to do with it - how do we incorporate that it the index system ! On that subject - when you read the accident reports in the magazine its good to see pilot hours and weather conditions - I'd also like to see AGE (male or female does n't matter) - not that age has a direct bearing on an accidient ........................ but it does complete a picture JM

    ROTAX engines and fuel pumps - series and parallel – it has been discussed before but I don’t see my answer On a ’24’ registered aircraft you have to keep things the way the factory does it – no modification I know different makes of ultralights that have an electric pump plus the mechanical pump (engine driven) that are all plumbed in series. The aircraft I am familiar with then has excess fuel returning to the fuel tank If the electric pump failed it will fail in the open position (no written guarantee can be found for this statement). If the mechanical pump fails - I am told that fuel will still be delivered through an internal by-pass Also, I am told that if plumbed in parallel the fuel is unregulated and could cause over pressuring and possible flooding. Also, in series during high demand situations with the electric boost pump on – the required head of pressure is maintained thus preventing cavitation and possible vapour locks Question is – do fuel pumps plumbed in series – an electric boost pump then the mechanical pump offer redundancy – if either pump fails – will the other pump do the job. I’d like to be assured that plumbed in series is the correct way Thanks JM

Quiet low crap and poor viz in smoke haze - friday it was a better ceiling and viz started improving past Moura on way home A drop of rain might wash the skies JM

    Morning all They say that if you loose your car licence - DUI - ................................... then you use boat license (if you have one) and vicki versa (guess thats true ??) If you lose your car license ................................. because of excessive alcohol (not planning to) - i.e; DUI - do you loose your RAA pilots licence ? Would you loose your GA pilots license ? JM

    Just been thru replacing all hoses on a Tecnam Bravo - with a L2 - L2 the brains - me the monkey Obvious question ???????? ............... where the 2 tank lines meet at a 'T' the fuel line then forward is a larger internal and external diameter - same for you Tdave ?

I like that one - me dad was a topdressing pilot and I can always remember my mum saying she was out for tea and biscuits - another women spoke to her and said 'what a dangerous job that aerail topdressing is ................ and all those pilots spread over the countryside like raspberry jam !' ........................................................... polite girls chatter

    Congratulations to the new board members - there has to be something speacial in a person to take such a position The people that want to vote give a true indication of the vote - no need having people that don't want to .............. voting for no good reason. Also probably; the people that don't vote, trust & rely on the people in this thread that understand the complexities of the politics. The people that don't vote probably are not even interrested in any issues involved ................................ power to the people I don't reckon there is anything wrong in that viewpoint - that you don't have to partake in the 'vote'. I agree with the comments that there should be some sort of separation between the licensor / regulator and this web-site ? - otherwise how can we take a swing at them ? .............................. although we need to keep giving Ian - the site administrator - more work ! JM

    I knew Ian ....................... we both worked at Emerald Council back say 7 years ago ..................... we would often try & solve the troubles of the world - but, to no avail - we prbably caused more .............. than we solved. I have not seen Ian since then - I did not know his family We would talk all things flying and and to me he was a thoughtful and careful peron .................. RIP Ian My condolences to both families, friends, associates, rescue, council and airport staff, etc JM

    Taking nothing away from this unique plane - In NZ there was a recorded accident where a loaded Airtruck commenced take off - while moving slow .................... the nose wheel then broke away ............... the plane rolled over its nose .................... esentially the plane was upside down ............ the pilot survived this stage of the accident ........... but, the pilot's head (and I recall helmet) was pinned between the load and forward dash / windscreen ....................... and unfortunately despite efforts of rescuers ............. the pilot died All planes bite - this scenario woul be hard to predict ? JM

    We originally got ANZ finance for an aeroplane - business loan secured against the house - they were very helpful Having said that - 5 years ago - financial times were good and the place was booming .................. finance was easy to find ........................ compared to now, I'm sure As an aside - I'm sure its an old saying ? - can't remember if it was a financier or insurer - they said "if it floats, farts or flys - we don't want anything to do with it" .................... !!!     yep - australians are welcome to any airfield in NZ - the language barrier is not that difficult to overcome ...................... the people are friendly and the sheep are ............... I was there 2 months ? ago - Timaru - about 150 kms south of Christchurch - and hired a tomohawk (with instructor) and flew north - about 50 kms to some island strip (island on a river). very interesting airfield - some pics attached. NZ seems a small place in comparison to Australia - so its a visual feast when flying Hire rate was about $ 190 / hour NZ NZ awaits but try and not strangle the vowels when talking JM

    http://www.sbs.com.au/dateline/story/watch/id/601201/n/A-Wing-and-a-Prayer Don't know if this has been discussed on the forum................. but if you look at the above link there was a great documentary on fueslage manufacture (sorry - don't how to do the direct link thingy) In short the parts are supposed to be computor machine cut ......................... but a subcontractor of the 'discussed part' seems to be able to a better job with a template ....................... scribe the template ........................ machine cut and finish plus hand drill the template ................ with asscociated problems of assembly at the boeing plant Also 3 accidents - fueslage failures have occured and could be related An almost unbelievable sequence of events JM

    Yep .................... I'd be going for professional advise - per the previous posts - a town planning consultant Town planning is a tangled web of planning jargon and mountains of legislation I'm assuming all planning legislation has the same skeleton irrespective of what state you live in - so ........... I'd also go and see the relevant Council town planning department and get some feed back - the developer may have a consultant town planner, but equally the Council town planning department also represents all persons in the shire - yourself as a ratepayer and you as a user of the airport - you should be able to glean some information and preliminary advice from them JM

    aaaaahhhhhh the human race just remember if it wasn't for electrcity we'd all be watching television in the dark when I said Maj Millard should be banned from all comment about Jab engines ! - there was an 'apostrophe' - think that's how you spell it - that little line and dot means a lot ! (thats another line with a dot) Maj - you keep on keeping on - there's lot out there that hang on to all you say - me included (plus all the other wise owls who impart what they know) as for others - flying off the handle - w'ell ............................... we all do it ! (thats another line with a dot) good website and good freedom of speech (no law against 'free speech yet' !) JM

    I think Maj Millard should be banned from all comment up Jab engines ! ................ nevertheless Heon - or for that matter does anyone else ...... think a Jab engine will ever be as good as a Rotax engine ? JM

    touchy subject I'm with you Spin - its probably the same if all the 'quiltweaver' clubs (or whatever it's called) invited males to join and do needlepoint - I can't imagine there would be a ............... rush I'd guess males first flew because females could n't show their bloomers I don't see any discrimination when it comes to female flyers (i'm talking flying clubs - not commercial) - in fact feamles are always made welcome - ther just ain't many of them - to suggest something else has got to be the start of a 'persecution complex' How to encourage more female flyers ? - we males have to infiltrate the 'quiltweaver' clubs Your instructions ............................... dates, places and Church associations will be posted to you shortly JM
