  1. !c 130 HP very popular motor in it's day. Had Bronze heads. You can't use leaded fuel. Nev
  2. Looks like a good site but We have all encountered "enhanced" images and there will be More (and More) . Planes get hot when not airconditioned on the ground. Nev
  3. You are free to buy whatever you like and what works best for you. There's NO conspiracy. like you suggest. It's a contested market and you are pretty one eyed. Anything aircooled, you rubbish it.. Reduction Gearing is an added complexity and there's good reasons to do without it IF you can.. Likewise Head gaskets and liquid cooling.. but you won't be listening. Nev
  4. Trying to respond to your question, actually. Nev
  5. Many were scrapped. There's no future for them . Just a lot of upkeep to keep them flyable and it's not worth it. Sell off engines. They can be inhibited. etc
  6. Wing sweepback mostly and the wings are longer with 4 engines. They all have Yaw dampers to "live" with it. Nev
  7. The plane where you encountered "Dutch Roll" for real. That fuselage section was used on many later models. . The Early motors trailed smoke and had low thrust. The wing tips could rise and fall a total of 27 feet without damage. Nev
  8. IF you do an outlanding you'll have a long way to walk unless you land near a road. There's a lot of emptiness out there. Nev
  9. Different with the Jet stuff. You can't make money flying WW2 bombers. They are built with very low structural load factors and high servicing costs. Nev
  10. That's the military version of the DC3. Over 10,000 built, The equivalent of the DC4 is a C54. Nev
  11. I reckon that picture is faked the more I consider it, They would ALL have to be flown into there. Nev
  12. I'm one of those who don't consider the DH82, MIGHTY, but I have to be careful where and when I say it. It has endeared itself to many pilots and they won't hear anything AGAINST IT. What % of pilots alive today have flown them? Nev
  13. It used to be the Opposite. Before that Douglass aircraft had the best reputation. I recon the DC3 is the best plane EVER considering the Period it was built and what else was around at the time. Nev
  14. Even better THEY were DOUBLE WINGERS.. A new and tight doping job makes a different sound when flying. Nev
  15. Many don't realise the gravity of the problem they are addressing. It just need Skyhooks. Nev
  16. Training in Multi Piston engined planes always had a high fatality rate. Boeing built 28% of the war planes. Ford built the "Liberator" which was kept unmodified for Servicing and training ease I think a total of about 8000 units. Many were bult by women I've never heard of any particular quality issues. Many were "ferried" on risky routes.. Nev
  17. Peasant is also Man of the Country. PAYSant. Nev
  18. It's been needed for ages. Nev
  19. I haven't read the article but they are a known" Icing problem" plane If you were holding with ALT set on the autopilot in had severe icing conditions, You will stall fast due to extra drag and lift loss from ice accretion destroying the airfoil shape. Nev
  20. The "silver" was put in the nitrocellulose "Dope". Paint makes them too heavy and also makes the fabric crack from the vibration.. Nev
  21. #4 engine feathered. Feathering check is often Part of a flight test. Sometimes they won't un feather. Nev
  22. A "baddeam" liner. Nev
  23. Use Hobbs meter for both. as long as you stick to the same method. Nev
  24. They don't have good deals on exchange or rebuilt engines. Arguably the 80 HP motor was the most reliable unless it's had a prop strike.. Nev
  25. As see it the GST is only on the charges. Nev
