  1. What are you lubricating rubber for? It's not used in large angular displacement situations . Nev
  2. They think?? accidents only happen to other people. Careful people are scaredy cats according to that lot. Too TOUGH to care. They move among us. IF you aren't SURE check it again. Nev
  3. Most of those bushes don't need lubricant. The "GIVE" is in the rubber. Clean rubber with glycerine. Petroleum makes it expand and weaken. If you get oil on a tyre clean it as quickly as possible.. There's a rubber grease available for use in auto hydraulic systems. Nev
  4. They use the same airspace. Nev
  5. These would require a Permit to fly. That covers a lot of abnormal conditions with many aircraft types and usually applies to ferry flight only to get it repaired. Nev
  6. What's at play here is the Lawyers at CASA are covering their arses. When this circuit stuff started after the demise of aeradio 122.1 clearly laid out procedures were established which gave comprehensive guidance for better or worse. Now really Rafferty's rules apply. Radio procedures are at an all time low for quality and self discipline. Who checks their radio function before departing for a flight? Who has two radio VHF sets? That's why will get more scary moments and accidents. Nev
  7. Just another hazard if you can do without it. Often you can remove the top of the cowl in a short time You MAY have to ADD oil as well. Nev
  8. Speedway bikes make your workshop smell nice for ages. I always shake oil containers before pouring from them
  9. A good scare or two will make anyone think of quitting with all the other BS that goes on as well. You should constantly assess whether you are getting the Bang for your bucks you might once have expected. That's a bit separate from risk considerations but it should all be in the Mix. Weird winds from nowhere and stupid acts by others come high in my list of real negatives. Everyone thinks they can fly these days. You have to "THINK AEROPLANE" Not just occupy a seat with your brain in neutral. Nev
  10. It's not just what you do , It's HOW you do it. Nev
  11. That Mooney won't go no More. Nev
  12. I think BOAC brought them here. Think I saw one at Tullamarine, which opened about 1970. I think Essendon's runways would have been too short.. Most pitch angles are limited to 18 degrees for Passenger comfort on RPT. on climb out. Four engined planes are not as overpowered as 2 engined planes are. They have 3 left when ONE fails. The comparisons would have to be made at max TOW to be valid. . A jet well under MAX TOW will climb better. A lot of take offs are done with reduced thrust when all the power is not required. Nev

    Focke Wulf Ta 152

A pretty good aircraft . Kurt Tank also test flew it I think the test aircraft had water meth and just flew away from a Mosquito. Nev
  14. FD most Wednesdays I see a bloke in a pilot group who has more hours in command of the A 340 than most could ever get if you want any specific questions asked. I don't think they sold lots of them as they were for a Niche market. The A300 is the First of the "AIRBUS" Line. Parts for them were made in about 4 countries and assembled at Toulouse (France) . Nev
  15. 10 Miles is better from an active aerodrome IF there's no good reason to be any closer.. . On some routes traffic climbing and descending are a Hazzard best avoided. There may also be traffic in other directions to be watched but the denser traffic is higher risk.. all stations (place area) ABC,(type optional) 10 miles east at 6000 abeam (place)at (time) tracking for XYZ.. Nev
  16. The thing IS that you don't need to do this Overhead thing very often. I can't recall using the term OVERHEAD ever when flying... Nev
  17. Twin Aisle IS wide Body. An APU can be kept running in some planes if one of the engine driven generators is US. This can be done in a DC9. It's about having a capable electrical power supply. Over water or land makes no difference except you carry life rafts and the things you put around your neck and inflate when you are outside. Landing off field is not generally considered safe enough but if you have no other option do it OR ditch in water as appropriate. A RAT. RAM AIR Turbine provides emergency electric and/or Hydraulic power when the engines can't. You'd have no anti icing because that comes from engine Bleed Air. The centre engine on a 3 engine set up is usually less efficient. Nev
  18. It uses the word "Should" Not MUST. Please take note. ALL the points you have brought up I have also Assess the situation Don't just fixate on a few words. as if complying with them is the ONLY way and is always the answer.. An over riding consideration in this game is to conduct your flight in the safest manner possible. THAT'S been the rule for a long time and I can't see it EVER changing. It's fundamental and over rides all others. That's a pretty recent AIP also. 3 months old. I'm not new to these things. I've worked with the AFAP and CASA to write some of them. Nev
  19. You don't seem to be able to think this out in your head. The quickest and most simple move from overhead is to descend midfield and reach circuit height before the downwind leg IF you can't do that go enough distance to DO the descent where it's safe. Dead side or even a bit further depending on the amount of traffic. That will take extra time and manoeuvring than you would doing it the way I suggest. This way of entering the circuit is not the Most common way as I've explained. If you have good radio communication for example and the aerodrome is familiar to you. Nev
  20. I've done a lot off Flying in general and instructed in GA and AUF/RAA I have NO idea what you have been taught but you suggestion is more clumsy, imprecise and entails more time in the circuit. Nev
  21. Don't agree. How do you get a look at the windsock and the general layout IF you don't have a look from a safe heigh clear of other circuit traffic.?
  22. There's a crosswind leg and a midfield process which includes a descent to circuit height by the time you are on downwind leg. I can't see why you'd want to risk confusing the two. To do the minimum sized circuit you'd climb on the runway extended line to 500FT and then continue the Climb 1000 ft agl to turn downwind at the distance from the runway that suites you. Nev
