  1. To me that shows Rod has faith in the future for Jabiru. Australia's U/L fraternity owes a lot to Rod whether they individually owned one or not. It gave many a real choice of a product that works. Nev
  2. Electro regenerative braking cuts normal Brake wear. Nev
  3. Out in the open in the hottest part of the year you won't last long without shade and water. Nev
  4. There's a lot of oil splashing about in a modern engine and they warm up quicker . IF the motor runs too cold it'll wear out much quicker Motors running on LPG run very clean but you should still change oil once a year at least to reduce acid that will dissolve the lead in copper lead bearings. Alutin is getting more common and needs good filtration as it doesn't like dirt. Short runs and /or dusty conditions change more often. Nev
  5. If it's got sludge, strip it, and clean it properly. Moving sludge runs a risk of blocking up oilways. . Nev
  6. I'd be a bit concerned if it was over 3 years old for use in a plane. Synthetic should be more stable. OLDER synthetics may use different bases. Like ESTERS. . Rare these days but you can't assume compatibility. IF you use oils that do mix the lowest performing one is the one you judge the mix by.. I would never flush a motor with so called flushing oil. Too risky for things like cam lobes and followers. Nev
  7. Regional RPT are probably one of the biggest offenders there. They tend to favour the runway that heads the way they are going. IF you are holding waiting on a taxiway make sure your brakes don't sink to the floor and permit you to roll in front of them. Nev

Simple safe and affordable. IF you are fitting gadgets and playing with them make sure someone is still ,managing the "SHOP". If your PAX is an air person make use of the extra pair of eyes. Nev
  9. Sprung to open and tugged to close. You have to pull the throttle out of the dashboard by the roots. Never liked it. Nev
  10. It's not helpful is it? but it can't be a 1,2,3, thing and that's often what students too often think things should be. There's NO single answer. Be situationally AWARE and tailor your (minimum and rehearsed) TALK to each situation. Like at a Controlled aerodrome you must get a Clearence to LAND but it doesn't GUARANTEE the runway is unoccupied. You still need your brain and your eyes. ANY DOUBT make it NO doubt if you can.. With SOME instructors you GET THERE despite them not because of them and they do show you what YOU should not become like. . Nev
  11. Raving ON is NOT communicating and it stops others getting a word in. We have a long way to go before this matter is practiced well enough to be effective... Turn the brain ON before the mouth is in motion.. THINK about what you are going to SAY before you press the transmit button. KNOW the proper phrases to use and don't try to sound like you think Tom Cruze would.. Nervousness makes you perform poorly. Try to get over that.. Nev
  12. Tailor it to the circumstances A reply is the only way you know you are transmitting to start with Is your volume down too far? 10 miles (Where) with intentions. Over fly to check the windsock. Risky places. descending (on down wind) or turning final). Turning final is the Place most stalls happen. More likely when you are busy.. PLAN where to go if people do something different or appear in a dangerous place. ETC. Nev
  13. Definitely do not spray any oil containing substance around. Rivets rely on contact between the two (or more) surfaces.. In your circumstances Christin, I'd specifically seek advice from people operating in salt I know the C-180 float plane is stronger and specially corrosion treated when built. Nev
  14. Dehydration and food poisoning are to be avoided. . stress ECG's prove little and often bring a heart attack on about 12 days after it's done. IF some doctor says do one get a 2nd opinion BEFORE doing it. If you can't talk when you walk or puff easily, go see a cardiologist without delay Read up on heart EVENT symptoms Drink more water even at night. Nev
  15. Even when you have done the full medical at the highest level you MUST notify the CASA IF you get some other issue that would affect your ability to fly and when you recover. Nev
  16. Anyhow the rivets work by Holding the surfaces TIGHTLY together and rely on the friction to prevent movement and putting more shear load on the rivet(s). .015 thou sheet is really too tin to just rivet. Bonding would be the answer in these circumstances where the stress needs to be spred along the lap join. It would also serve to stop moisture. If you sprayed WD 40 , or anything oily it would weaken the joints by reducing the friction between the sheets. and putting more shear load on the actual rivets and star cracks to form from the Hole(s). Nev
  17. Genthin thinners are more available. I found it works better than acetone straight.. They all evaporate pretty quickly and can't possibly be good for you. MEK is bad too. Nev

Why would you need the RISK of having powered trim on a small plane? Where it's used there is a brake that comes in automatically by pulling the elevators to oppose it which is intuitive and it's non too subtle in it's action as well.. .
  19. A significant % of people won't give you the "Bearing" they are FROM the place even as say East North east North etc. To give an incorrect one is worse than none as you are looking where the Person isn't. Talk about efn dangerous.. A lot need to lift their game. I was typing at the time you were, so it's not directly relevant. Nev
  20. I have some stuff called Alumiprep, for cleaning the bare aluminium of aircraft skins. there s a product for cars etc called wax and grease remover. Nev
  21. Where does the water drain to on a flat surface? Cambered runways have their own problems. The places where it's used as a runway are widened. on the road. I only know of one place like that. Nev
  22. You ARE a bit unfriendly and touchy. . It WAS asked as a question. DeSoto is one of the four cars under one maker. Dodge Chrysler DeSoto and Plymouth. Why does talking to YOU always end up SO unpleasant.? . Nev
  23. The downwind leg is the latest place you can alter your touch down time by much. Calling while turning makes you more visible. Base for 27 full stop can be useful to those ready to line up and is a pretty precise point generally. Tailor to the circumstances. Speak clearly Not too fast and don't waffle on.. .Nev
  24. Apart from the highway and the roadhouses it's definitely a REMOTE AREA. One of the best things to do would be study the weather for 2weeks before as well as the forecast during the time you'll be doing it. Get info that shows the MSL Isobars. You DO need a few things going for you. Nev
  25. Trouble is there's not usually another, Just down the road and I've been there when the was 4" of mud and gravel and water all over the road on my 1918 Indian with trucks churning through it from Coolgardie to Kal. Nev
