  1. Cheap safe and easy on the engine. Nev
  2. You have to think about suitable clothes etc. and maybe a more expensive house. I'm not saying superior intellect. I've spent a lot of time there. . The fact you can't really Swim there other than pools is a pity. There's a lot more choices of places to go here.. Nev
  3. Constant warmth makes you lazy and inflexible and reliant on air-conditioning.. Darwin is one of the most even max temperature places I know of.. . You can't work hard in hot and humid places and you have to THINK more in cold places. Nev
  4. Turbs, not the Under the hood bit. It's a bit extreme to mandate, but I've ALWAYS advocated "unusual attitude recovery" training for everyone (in an appropriate, strong enough plane) OR at LEAST for ALL instructors.. The Instructor must be able to handle ALL possible situations competently. Nev
  5. Stalling is dangerous. Don't we ALL know that? The way it's normally covered in your training is near useless. Loss of control Is LOSS of control and HAS to be worse. Recovery from unusual attitudes under the hood on limited panel will sort THAT out. I can assure you ,THAT is NOT easy.. Nev
  6. The U/C is undamaged also. Birds are common in such places. Nev
  7. I found it easy to keep straight compared to many others but also started on tailwheels. It's also easier to land than a Thruster but the view is incomparable . U/c a bit weak for a school plane. There are plenty Of Trikes doing passenger work Parachuting is far from risk free. Rock climbing motorcycle riding being in shark infested waters. Flying over r emote mountainous& timbered or water. Legally as I understand it, the only way you can earn money with RAAus flying, is when instructing. Nev
  8. DH props have a brass covered LE. with rivets You don't fly in rain with wooden props. Nev
  9. Needs more than water "proofing" . Nev
  10. I guess that will considered turbs It's normal to do a post mortem., Lee Ungerman went to so many of those when he ran RAAus. An unpleasant task.
  11. I don't know how you run a business with it if it wasn't under GA. RAAus are silly about a low flying endorsement. They restrict it to cattle mustering and I've had WORDS with them about that restriction but it was talking to a brick wall. Denying people necessary skills is close to criminal negligence and I was authorised to do it in GA signed off in my logbook. . Nev
  12. Maybe the front is damaged I can't tell but not much else is. Being upside down in the water is NOT a place to be especially IF it's shallow and muddy. Nev
  13. Sensenich are a highly regarded prop manufacturer, I'd stick with a light weight prop and don't do sharp turns on the ground with high revs on the engine. and one wheel nearly locked. Is it fitted with good fitting cooling baffles around the cylinders and an adjustable cowl flap? Nev
  14. All intact Even the wheels. Front immersed in the water?? Nev
  15. Just remember to pull the helmet visor down before you commence your take off run. You have great view from the front seat. Under 70Kg people need more weight under the seat. I never had to worry about that one.. Highly recommend that plane. to anyone who hasn't flown one yet or if you are buying your first plane . and don't wish to spend a fortune. . Nev
  16. When these planes were first let fly you couldn't operate the above 300 Feet was it? I first flew a THRUSTer at Mangalore (My first U/L).at an airshow 1985.. No place to stuff up a Circuit and landing with a big audience. which I actually didn't even think about.. Slight difference to the Plane I was flying at work.. (B 727) Nev
  17. Cheaper houses AWAY from the Humdrum of the City More relaxed, But the traffic is getting bad there and it's TOO Humid in the wet and I hate crocodiles I used to sail Cats on Fanny bay but wouldn't do it now.. Went to Mica Beach in the 60's on an amphibious war Tank with a freeboard of about 5 inches at night with no lives lost. Where else could you do that? Mind you it WAS a bit Clandestine.. (not widely advertised OR legal). Nev
  18. It's a matter of timing. Be there at the right time. Despite all the Intense experiences it was a lot more dangerous. The training especially. but bullshit could not be a part of it. You had to make it happen. Planes that had in excess of 70,000 hours on the Airframe The only engines I've shut down in anger were R-2000's 5 of them. Not all at once of course. Over 5 years but there were other things more concerning than engine failures. Nev
  19. NT is the LAST Wild Frontier.. There HAS to be some reason to LIVE there.. Nev
  20. You've missed your calling With imagination like that you should be a Novelist. The props make the noise, Mostly on take off. Radials just rumble. Nothing quite like them. Nev
  21. You could send smoke signals but since I gave up smoking, I just wink and smile etc. and help old ladies off trams till I found out some of them did not want to get off. Nev
  22. Flies better solo. No one screaming with fear. and it performs better. Nev
  23. Never heard what one. They used to say the EW girls had to make their own uniforms (Material supplied of course). Home every night. (almost) Nev
  24. They are really quite strong, (except the U/C legs).. and quite easy to fly. Nev
  25. The same Physics still act on them. Gravity Pulls and lift opposes it. Planes are just planes till they go supersonic. Training enables mortals to fly them. Nev
