  1. Good radio procedures are still a major part of this always present problem, but it didn't stop a Garuda B 707 crossing the runway as I was on late final say 200 ft in an A 300. The quickly initiated go around by me . (I was 1/2 expecting it) resulted in missing him by about 50 ft. Potential death figure around 800.. That's at our biggest Secondary Airport. You can NEVER relax. . Be ready for anything. Nev
  2. IF you have vertical separation you can be sure you won't collide.. Nev
  3. Thrusters and Drifters don't have engines directly in front of you. The Thruster's is high above you. Denying they stink is ridiculous.. The oil and fuel injected modern ones use hardly any oil, but which TS Motor available to us is Like that?. Some Skyfoxes had 2 stroke motors and I mentioned the Avid flyer. The magnificent Sapphire is a sleek pusher (except for the ugly projecting exhaust system.). Nev
  4. Why deny an incremental adjustment possibility as well. Just a few notches on a rod. Electric wires need grommets in firewalls and the insulation can burn.. How's your throttle linkage done? Do it the same way. Nev
  5. The common windscreen wiper is a reversing cycle with a fixed rotation motor. but all these things can fail. Would you accept your mixture control being operated this way, or any other for that matter.. Nev
  6. Fossil fuel is NOT on the NHS. Nev
  7. When Religion and Politics MIX, it is. Often religion is a Tax free Lurk and/or a way of controlling the Masses. . Nev
  8. How do you know where the flap actually IS (position wise).? You are also relying on limit switches. WHY have a system where you NEED electric power? Nev
  9. Saying breathing oxygen is a risk, is a bit radical. In the big scheme of things the contribution of U/L's fuel to the words problems is not that significant. Oil contains weird stuff these days. Some fuels are risky before they are burned. Don't contact them or breathe them combusted. THAT we can do something about.. That's why Dog gave us noses. To warn us of BAD things. Nev
  10. Surely NOT needing one should be part of the discussion. Why do we always want to complicate things? Attend to the Nut holding the joystick Do you WANT to fly or just play with gadgets and scare yourself.? There's a safety aspect to this failing. ( including distraction). Nev
  11. Every light twin I've flown is direct cowl flap action. You just select Close and its closed. No waiting and no need to check if it feels normal.. Larger stuff is hydraulic actuated. with a closed Open and Trail position and inching up or down in between. In heavy rain you are very busy when there's 4 of them to look after and carb heat as well. Every time you reposition the cowl flap the carbheat has to be readjusted as well.. In addition there's {Prop antiicing. Glycol and alcohol down the Carb airscoops as well and Rubber boots that cycle near the leading edges. IF you aren't really careful with them they Just raise the ice a bit and do little else. Read "Fate is the Hunter" . Nev
  12. You can't do a lot with the 2 stroke Rotax exhaust system . It's designed to enhance horsepower not particularly direct it somewhere. Nev
  13. Some DC3s had the cowl flaps removed but you then can't look after the engines temps as well . OR reduce drag when the motor is feathered. Why design with electro/mechanicals that can fail Failing closed and continued flight may be compromised
  14. I'm more concerned about the health aspects of inhaling the stuff. Some synthetics are ester based and some are made from LNG. The Castrol R-30 is Castor and synthetic and it's particularly Horrible to be behind. What about the additives? Try breathing burning EP Gear oil... The fumes from CNC Cutting oil will give you Cancer. Avtur has antimicrobials that are toxic and skin contact should be AVOIDED. Tars are cancerous Nev.
  15. Whatever you say Father turbo.. USA is the Land of new religious Cults. Poor people are only poor because they are unworthy. Dog wants you to be rich. Greed is Good. Does that rest well with you? Nev
  16. ALL rich people are like that. That's why the Capitalists Church, (Pentecostal charismatic) is Tailor made for the rich MALE sexual Predators. Nev
  17. Rally cars used them and you can see individual insects on blades of grass, sliding during turns. They will overheat fast in a no air over them condition like taxiing downwind. IF you go past Tullamarine most days you'll see the aircraft landing lights of many aircraft landing on 26 or 34. 20 +kms away. Williamtown Had approach strobe lights to the western end of the runway that were Very effective. Nev
  18. They stink wherever they are but in front of you in the normal place, it's hard to avoid it. FFS you get it in an Auster. Piper cub tiger moth etc and they don't have oil in the fuel. Follow a Goggomobile or any TS lawnmower. . Have you flown an avid flyer? The name for TS bikes in the USA was "Stink wheels". They could never meet pollution standards. Use them while you still can but don't call BS on ME. They have a great Power to Weight ratio.. Nev
  19. There's not a great deal of force required.. Why have an actuator? Cable or rod with fail safe to OPEN. Spring + air load. Nev
  20. I'm only trying to help. I'd prefer to operate without a thermostat in an airborne 2 stroke. Use shutters or a blind. Thruster I was only repeating the words the Makers used, at the time. Of course resourceful people can keep these things going but you have to get stuff early in the Piece, like low time 582's when people pulled them at 300 hours and put a new one in which didn't cost that much, if you sold your old engine on. Incidentally, I've been building and tuning competition 2 strokes since Pontius Pilot was in diapers. I don't wish to blow my own trumpet, but I'm NOT coming from a position of ignorance in this matter either. ,Nev
  21. No. Being poor is character building. Nev
  22. More than that. Have the procedure specific to the Plane you are IN. ALL planes are DIFFERENT and even the CofG position will make a difference and rigging differences from plane to plane. The first thing to decide is Spin OR Spiral? The "Graveyard Spiral" killed many a pilot and LOADS UP the aeroplane so exit from it quickly is paramount. The Plane is NOT stalled so ailerons work normally.. A SPINNING plane has a pretty constant and LOW airspeed which will not stress the aeroplane till recovery from the dive you are in when you get the spin under control.. At that stage you will pull about 2.5 -3 G AND you need some height. Spins at low height are not recoverable from mostly unless you a spot on driver and if so you wouldn't have gotten into a spin anyhow. AVOIDANCE is the only SURE way.. You have an extra control in a powered plane. ADDED thrust. and it can prevent the stall. There's not much added thrust available at Max cruising height in a Jet. IF you get turbulence or a failing engine IT's DOWN you are coming one way or another. Nev
  23. BRIGHT Lights and strobes DO stand out, even in daylight. Nev
  24. Don't you realise he's being sarcastic? Why is this so important to you, Skip? Nev
  25. They make a range of light and good looking aircraft. You'll have enough power but 2 strokes up front, stink. (smell). Nev
