  1. Rocket has liftoff Houston! Congrats:victory:
  2. Awesome - now I know where Tomo got the photo's- just got to wipe of an old Deep puple album and crank it up:happy dance:
  3. Last year a drifter pilot was "performing phenomenal skills of piloting prowess" at low level at a fly- in. Seen by hundreds it went unreported, two days later he was dead, his passenger dead, and a widow was left with an unborn child. If you don't want to be strangled by external regulation then self regulation is the only way to go. Survival of the luckiest has no place in aviation. Good onya Darky- we don't have to be the judge and jury, but we can't be ignorant and oblivoius and remain innocent either.
  4. Go nuts and rivets Thirsty- congrats:clap:
  5. G'Day Mike, yes it will be based at Ycab and will be used for dual STOL training and advanced pilot training- no hire. I have a jab 120 that needs to sell which is currently advertised. Once it's gone 3 mths and we're ready to go.
  6. I've got to swing a change in instructing roster- but working on it. Hope we can catch up for a beer or three. A lift as in a flying seat??
  7. Great to catch up again Pete ( and Tomo). Got back to cab just before the rain hit. Hope you both had a great time and safe trips home. I reckon more GA is creeping into our fly -ins. Maybe they're coming over to the brighter side. Tomo did you mile high today??? Maybe the Antonov Hotel??( Only Jokin:laugh:)
  8. PS_I have learned more stick and rudder skills flying RAA than I did flying GA FWIW Ahh there goes talk about those things on the floor... somtimes I think the student handbook should have a lost & found section. It's amazing when they actually start to use them in harmony. Good one Dazz.
  9. Nice to meet you briefly yesterday, now I know where I knew the name from! Good luck with your project, look fwd to seeing it next to my soon to be S in the near future. Bill is a great ambassador for the product. Neil.
  10. Hey Tomo- take up Hang Gliding I tasted plenty of Grass roots when I face planted for the first two mths. Training hills suck, at least in later days our students got to use a turf farm, the grass was better quality, not for smokin tho:no way:
  11. Yep - he started on the grass and is ro@#%ted already!
  12. Yeah, Bud- gotta support my membership and besides I love the place- hang out there whenever I can.
  13. Getting back to the original Grass roots Q- May I suggest that many people buy what they learn to fly- and with a large proportion of schools using plastic and high end RA a/c then that's what the new pilots look for. Try and get a HP tricycle pilot jumping into a LP tailwheel by choice , the room goes quiet except for the hairy chested hecklers from days gone by and then they don't want to get left behind when the gang blasts off to cross countrysville. I am totally for getting back to basics yet still commit both every weekend. Bring back the Drifter days and now with Fishers 912 powered unit it is a real option for schools and let's not forget Tony H's beloved Thruster and many others. And trikes have always filled this void, we often get weird looks when we tell people where we have flown from " in that thing" Two stroke insurance ( or lack thereof) killed many of the early rag and tubers for training unless you're happy to put your house, life and assets up for the first law suit after a failed EFATO, but with new engines and better retro designs we can all look forwards at going backwards in strong winds- if you get my drift! ( Pun).
  14. The best start to any pilots flying endeavours all the best- A new club starting with winch towing- now theres a rarity in the days of aerotowing!
  15. First hang glider flight in 1975. Solo was the only possibility. Thermalling to 10,000 feet in a hang glider, Queenstown NZ in 81-82. Stunning mountain scenery & I could see the Pacific Ocean and the Tasman Sea at the same time (once I took the iced up glasses off). Wow KG, we share hang birthdays, mine was in the New England Tablelands My big 10'000 was inland near Boonah - I had never seen the world that small except for a flight to NZ in a Al cigar. Awesome!(and cold) How things have changed...
  16. That's easy!- the last flight I did!!, sometimes it was yesterday, sometimes a week- it is always the best because everytime I close the hangar doors I pinch myself to remind me how priviledged and lucky I am to be doing this, whether with a student, family, friends or just on my own. Like Maj and others the minute you try to picture the best- a whole heap of great flights rush to your head. Good stuff this flyin thing:plane:
  17. Out of the Dark(y) and into the controlled light- all power to you- well done:thumb_up:
  18. Congrats Win- A win/win situation:laugh:
  19. Well we got back at lunch today and two out of two weekends of fine Qld weather- someone worked out how to turn the taps off. Inglewood was a very relaxed affair this year with probably half the attendence of previous years. maybe it was the proximity to Easter, or discussion was rife about the attendence of Ra Aus and CASA, leading many to believe that pilots stayed away because of this. Seems a strange logic but never the less there was lots of flying, two good thermal days for the hangies, and lot's of variety with a destinct increase in the number of powered parachutes. The towns people and local Lions club catered exceptionally well and it wasn't even that cold at night. We flew lot's of Tif's in the trikes; from Air services staff to a wonderful 83 yo ex- german fighter pilot! All had unforgettable flights. Inglewood is a very friendly, relaxed and social fly -in. Put it on the calender for next year:wave:
  20. Thanks guys for the support- we still plan to leave at 7am tomorrow but Plan B will be Sunday if wet or windy or if all else fails I may go via Jab express if untrikeable(do you like that word:scratching head:) Will call you when we get there. You won't miss us!
