  1. No worries mate - keep up the good work. CU soon.:)
  2. Especially when you get your stall recoveries right.... hey mate:)
  3.
  4. Good analysis everyone, Tomo knows my thoughts on the 120 and I flew every current model before I bought it. People look at it and say" oh that's cute' and it's tiny but you get them to sit in it and they go "oh wow, that's feels much bigger!" . It's actually within 60mm wide of the 230!then you head off in it and climb out at 1000'/min one up ( and I'm over 90kgs!), or 800 2 up and do a true 100knots +, not some claimed figure and only burn 14l/hr real and then get out after 3 hrs and jump straight back in. What else can you do that in factory built for under $65k. It was interesting going to Natfly this year- there was a gaggle of J160'S, 170'S 230's and other brands heading sth from Qld and all within 50 miles of each other.Mine landed at all the same spots, refuelled while there and landed ahead of many at Temora. We all fantasize over our dream planes, and that's great but when a tru blu aussie manafacturer can put you in the air and perform within 10-20 percent of aircraft costing double or more then it's time to stop dreaming and go flying. Yep I know the Holden/Ford debate will continue to rage, along with many others but sitting in my hangar is a 120 that is mine and costs less than the trikes I teach in! Thanks Mr Stiff- I know it's your favourite too!
  5. You never feel So Hi as the first time you go So lo! Well done!
  6. Hey Bluey, I used to glide at Lake Keepit in my young days- we always used the Pelican's for markers and often thermalled with them! They were about 40:1 we reckoned and even knew how to hold bank on the opposite side of the thermal for separation-insane and great fun.
  7. Yep Dazza that's the vid I was referring too- awesome. Despite advice to the contrary from the distributor, I will most likely go with the 26'' Goodyear's rather than the bigger Alaskans. The advice I received from both Michael & Bruce was 6 or 8" Tundra's are all you need. In reality it's a bit hard in Oz to find legal places to practice the antic's on all these DVD's and the weight, cost, availability and drag of the big tyres are all disadvantages. The tight bush flying certainly add's a whole new dimension to your required skillsets and I know more than a few strips and paddocks that I will be able to use. This weather is a real pain in the proverbial:sad:, and next weekend I'm at Phillip Is for the GP and helping a mate in the 600 support race. A fly over Wivenhoe in the Cub will be the go when all this clears and her prop is sorted. My Jab goes in the mag next week and as soon as it's sold my order is going in for the cub. I get plenty of flying in Teccies and the like so having a real "seat of the pants" plane in the hangar is the go for me. Not every ones cup of tea, and I love the 120- the best Jab out there IMHO, but I can't have both! See when the blue skies return:)
  8. Just got the CUB 749ER DVD's - same stuff with ege trimmers- awesome. Wet weekend, heaps of inspiration- thanks guys...:)
  9. Fantastic news Cooda- no doubt fostered with your support! Lest we not forget that today's RA Aus was yesteryears GA before it got way ahead of itself. No surprises that good basic flying skills are what our forces want to build on- wouldn't you. Congrats to your son. There are elements of GA that continue to throw RA Aus into the cowboy corner- it's great to hear that the decision makers in our Air force think differently and recognise value on merit. Keep the faith.
  10. Hey Scooby, glad to see you've introduced yourself to this forum- we'll catch up in a few weeks when Cressie get's back from OS- Hopefully he'll drag this inclement weather back to the UK where it belongs. 4235 is re-assembled ready for action! Welcome to the forum - Neil.
  11. Yep guys, weather was boss today- Glad you got there by land Tomo- Leo tried to get the CTMC out there but 600' base was having none of it- only got 2 ccts in my Jab and a half hr TIF - some days are for maintenance- today was one of them!
  12. Hey Joe, my J120C( latest) is up for sale. Climbs at 1000fpm at SL, cruises at 103kts at 2850rpm and will drink between 14/15l/ph at that. As CFI says great, honest little plane and I'm 183cm and 95kg. I flew them all before I bought it new- it is the best pilot's plane in the flock! PM me if I can help you more.
  13. You'll love little Miss Scarlet- she's got a sore tooth at the moment I hear with some minor prop issue picked up in service during the week- Greg and the guys are working on it at the moment. I'm on standby for students on Sunday now if weather is bad Sat, I'll get there one way or another to support the RFDS and the day. CU:keen:
  14. Yep, the strutted hopefully, may bring a student to get them out of the cct! but if I run out of time it'll be the Jab, it's for sale at the moment to make way for my new cub! CU there Spin.:)
  15. Yep guys, only a warm up run for me,weather forcast is again suss but I'll get there Sunday at some time at this stage. Beware the power lines on 18 approach!
  16. Fiona was a regular at Toogoolawah when I jumped and besides her passion and skill- she was incredibly safety focussed. Fi did a lot to support many female jumpers and the APF s well. Ozzie you obviously knew her well and my condolscences to all thse close to her and that share the passion to accelerate through the air. I 'll never forget her beaming face accross the formation on a sunset 12 way in '97. Endless Free fall to her Blue skies & blood shot eyes.
  17. G'Day, TF- think I saw your 230 being finished off last week when I was up there- there were 3 being prepped! I fly Caboolture - Bundy quite frequently. Sunshine Coast Class D extends west past Cooroy so track Bundaberg -Tiaro- Gympie - Boroon Pocket Dam, - Bald Knob @3500-4500 feet Watch for western vectored traffic form Maleny VOR.CTR129.0/TWR124.400 Then track coastal to sth tip of Bribie- East to Tangalooma, ( less than 25nm or glide over water!- 3500'LL CTA!) south down the VFR route ( western side of Moreton and Stradbroke)- Jacobs Well, head SW to intersect Hinze reservoir - then south staying west of Cooli CTA and Murwullimbah then home... this route gives you maximun weather options but get's tight if there's weather over Springbrook, but you can divert west to intersect Rathdowney via Laravale NDB and stay west of the weather then back via bit of tiger country around Killarney- Casino. You miss Amberley R660 and also if they activate Tin Can Bay in the north, you won't have to modify your plan. On delivery- I've found the guys great. Get photo's before you head up, make sure everything fits right. Make sure it's trimmed and flies straight. Make sure all instuments and comms work- especially radio's and EFIS stuff! Previous posts suggest giving yourself a couple of days- good advice I reckon! Ask lot's of questions. Congrats and hope you enjoy her!
  18. Well done Peter, there aren't many things in life you will remember this vividly for the rest of your life- but this is one of them. Treat every one like a first solo and you'll have a long happy involvement in flying( without the nerves!!). When the instructor is not in the back his voice should always be.
  19. Hey Dazz- yep it's been great! I've learnt to be a bit like Fred Astare in dancing and juggling around my flying commmitments to get some time in the cub, but the dancing shoes helped in taming the cub! Every pilot looking to diversify and improve their flying should do it. Greg and Peter run a very professional outfit and it is a pleasure as fellow instructors to share information on how we do things at different schools while enjoying a beautiful aircraft at the same time. I hope to have a cub in the not too distant future so watch this space:big_grin:
  20. Mowed the grass at the hangar today, did a 90 day instructor check and reminisced about a great day on friday flying the big red drifter! (cub) and hailing for eternity the realm of taildragger pilots. I've flown 5 different aircraft in 3 days including the Piper sport and that Cub has got me by the proverbials:blush:Sorry to hear about the weather, this has been the longest wait for an expected rain front in years- it just is soooo... slow moving. Look forward to a new date with the tigers soon...:)
  21. In aviation planes aren't the only things that go up! RA Au$ becomes Ca$A. We better get used to it! As we become more GA like and more GA pilots migrate to RA Aus this is going to place more pressure on admin costs- the price for being successful. This is why we need to get the board fundamentals right now- before it becomes a runaway train.
  22. This is a great Never ending story Wanna! The enjoyment no doubt is the embedded stories that came about from things NOT going to plan. Who'da thought it in the driest country on earth- Rain- the times they are a changin'
  23. Hey boys- hope you're looking after the Savvy Cub for me;)- we have a dance booked this week. My Jabs for sale to make way for one hopefully very soon. Busy with students this weekend but will be out there Friday at this stage- Warwick sounds like it's definatley moving ahead- nice to hear for a change:)
  24. If I start sucking my thumb with a picture of a cub and singing grizzly adams please don't stop me- I'm in heaven but you're already there! Can't wait to hear more... Thanks for the post- love to hear more.
