  1. landing fees themselves, No, excessive landing fees, Yes, Warernvale being a good example, to land at Bankstown +$10, is class D, has ATIS and AWIS, top class runways and taxiways, well maintained airport, Warnervale for your$27 you get a scrap of what some would call tarmac about 4 ft wide, with more pot holes than most Australian roads, poor quality taxiways and parking areas. no lighting, no ATC, no AWIS no ATIS nothing...
  2. was the Bae 146 called the flying gas chamber?
  3. http://www.police.nsw.gov.au/news/latest_releases?sq_content_src=%2BdXJsPWh0dHBzJTNBJTJGJTJGZWJpenByZC5wb2xpY2UubnN3Lmdvdi5hdSUyRm1lZGlhJTJGNDQ4MjcuaHRtbCZhbGw9MQ%3D%3D
  4. such negativity, anything that gets the public interested in aviation is a good thing in my books, even if it is a smelly mouldy old 747... and the more HARS collect, the more secure the future of aviation in the Illawarra becomes..
  5. i wouldnt invest in any aviation company, to many regulations can change the companies fortunes overnight, and with asuch a large skydive operation, and not requiring an AOC. it could all change when someone in casa notices this.. and no, im not having a go at them, they are a great aussie GA success story, but skydive ops dont legally need an AOC.
  6. Of course, the best RAAus aircraft out there!
  7. what tank does your fuel return line go to? i have found this happens when i have all tanks brimmed, i have to make sure i run off the tank the fuel return goes to first, i usually run it at least half empty, before switching to other full tanks, by the time i drain another main tank dry, the initial tank i ran on would be full again. sometimes i have forgotten to do this and have lost some fuel overboard when the tank with the return line overflows. also, with full tanks, and you fly unbalanced, you can have cross flow fuel cause an overflow. it can be fixed with the installation of a tap as Bobcharl mentioned.
  8. does that mean you need to do your BFR in every type you are endorsed on?
  9. it appears to me the only source of aviation maintainers left in Oz, is the Millitary.. but again, their skills in everything from C17's PC9's Blackhawks, F18's etc, cant transfer over to civilian qualifications, without a years worth of paperwork.... they can repair a composite flight control on a F18. but cant do a fibreglass repair to a cessna 150 cowling...
  10. isnt the runway at YWOL longer than Longreach? and if my memory serves me correctly, the main body gear is steerable, so it should put to much twisting loads on the sub par YWOL surface. and a 747-400, empty with minimum fuel, at full TOGA power would climb almost as steeply as my Savannah climbed out at YWOL, so i dont think the hills will be an issue.
  11. you can break the aircrafts windscreen, and you have a fleet of aircraft. Same for the word Fish, you either have a school of fish, you can buy 3 fish, or he fishers for bites or answers, there is no plural for Fish, sheep and aircraft. but then again, language does evolve, so it might be that we soon do have plural words for those, i blame the americans..
  12. as far as im concerned, the General Aviation industry in Australia is already dead. it shrunk beyond the point of self sustainability a while ago.. even now, No ATPL licences can be issued in Australia, as all applicants now need a Multricrew rating to go with it, an no one is Australia is approved to do the training... so, not only have we no General Aviation anymore, it wont be long before the last crop of ATPL's in Oz move on, and we have nothing to replace them.. Australians as professional pilots will be extinct. in the very near future, we will be like Europe when it comes to General aviation, a recreational hobby for the rich.. a massive shame, considering our country is almost perfectly custom made to foster aviation.. with our huge distances, great weather, and lack of mountains.. we should be world leaders in aviation. but sadly, aviation doesnt win elections, and we have not had a proper leader in our politics for quite a few decades now.
  13. Its a little from Column A and a little from column B. the first 30 secs of this video show it perfectly, both A and B. Bernoulli's Principle in effect by evidence of the water vapour condensing out of the lower air pressure above the wing on take off, especially as AOA increases at rotation, and B, downwash created by the wing... Move a lot of air down, then what ever moves the air down, will go up. equal and opposite reaction. video at 1.20 to 1.40 shows a 757 moving a lot of air down....
  14. was it wake turbulence, or the cirrus pilot stalled and spun while attempting a go around... quite a long time passed between the chopper departing and the cirrus arriving
  15. hmmmmm looking at the Savannah Nose gear leg... could save a lot of drag there...
  16. Cirrus claim to be spin resistant as well. yet, pilots manage to spin them. looks like they get the spin resistance from a lack of elevator authority, its incapable of getting the AOA to stall angle at low speeds (or any speed?)
  17. A savannah is easily seen on primary radar, being a slab sided metal aircraft, its a given, but i have first hand knowledge that the spped threshold for primary radar is 40Kts. approaching Bankstown one day into a strong sea breeze, our speed dropped below 40kts on approach, Bankstown tower asked us to confirm Ops normal as we dropped of primary radar at Sydney. they were a bit concerned and told us if we go below 40kts the radar dismisses the echo as ground clutter.
  18. preignition..... the most destructive force your engine can experience. most commonly misdiagnosed as detonation.
  19. Into the home stretch now, i know its been almost 12 months, but i am only working on it about 1 day a week... anyways, finally got the repaint completed.. just a few touch up spots left to do with a small brush around rivets etc. and a few treated corrosion spots around joins. also, its new wheels are installed. All thats left to do now is finish the panel (2 ipads 1 MGL extreme EFIS, Transponder and radio), install the transponder encoder, the 3 AHARS units for the ipads and MGL and fuel flow meter, then the last mod is the duplication of the throttle cable to be straight on the right hand carby. then its new weight and balance calculations, fuel calibration, and dynamic prop balance. and then another 100Hrly as its been 12 months since its last flight.... fingers crossed its next flight will only be a few months away.. now to get it in the sun for some proper pictures, and wash off whats left of 12 months of hangar dust
  20. i know the slats do work, its just in this video, they seam to be opening asymmetrically, with no noticeable effect on the flight. i would have though having one open and one closed would have created some adverse effect or yaw. i guess its at an AOA where the slats have no noticeable effect.
  21. not the place to fly with a crosswind... otherwise, it looks ok to me... except the asymmetric leading edge slats, that dont seam to have any real effect on lift...
  22. there not tundra tyres... Get a set of these under her...
