  1. i dont think loading was an issue, apparently the aircraft had already flown 1 sector with the load it had when it crashed, it stopped over in bagram to refuel only
  2. just returned, was a really good day, good turnout, ot as many flying in as i thought would, but still a good fleet of private aircraft.
  3. from the top its the same as from underneath, all white, except blue on the nose, blue wingtips, and the last ft of the wingspan, and yellow flaperons. and blue horizontal stab tips.
  4. for that money, you could build a complete IFR equipped, fuel injected 250 Hp constant speed prop 180 Kt cruising aerobatic rated RV7! though, it would not look as good as that!
  5. kitplanes is the only magazine i subsribe to, apart from the raaus mag, but i get it electronically.
  6. only recently i was watching a strutless cessna perform 7 bounces off the nosewheel, the pitch moment in the last 3 bounces were enough to cause 3 tail strikes in the one landing, well, after the 7th bounce off the noswheel, he decided to go-around.
  7. ive never had a problem with just 1/3 of oil cooler covered pretty much permanently, water cooler i never cover, never needed to, the only time i have uncovered the oil was when i was out broken hill way in summer. all winter in zero deg temps, never needed to cover water cooler, ut oil definately yes. no real need for a manual operated cover.
  8. isnt the oil temp measured on the cold side of the oil cooler?, so the oil temperature will be well over 100 deg before it enteres the cooler if it is at 90 deg after its cooled.
  9. i dont know any pilots earning 500K, top check and training captain will be on near 200K, but that like saying every actor out there is an A list actor earning millions, not to mention, to get to that level takes a looog time. and lots of Money. one path is a cadetship, with eitehr REX or sharp airines, they will give you a job, but you have to borrow off them approx $100K, and be bonded to the company for another 6 to 9 years, even then a captains wage is about 80K, first officer is about 50K i would say at a rough guess, the average wage of a pilot in oz is around 60 to 80K. after a bit of digging, current award pays The base rates are as follows: Fixed wing single engine $29,182.00 Fixed Wing Multi engine $35,116.00 Helicopter Single engine $40,448.00 Multi engine $43,344.00 If you are a casual then the hourly rates are: Fixed wing single engine $45.60 per hour Fixed Wing Multi engine $54.87 per hour Helicopter Single engine $66.16 per hour Multi engine $70.85 per hour Jetstar 6 weeks Annual Leave + Allowances $35 000 for endo + Food Accomodation (they are now doing the endo in NZ so forgot shacking up with relos or friends in Auz!) $15 000 for command upgrade RDO’s can be counted overseas A320 Capt $141 860 FO $ 85 116 A330 Capt $ 153 210 FO $91 926 Virgin Blue Fleet B737 B737 E Jet E Jet Rank Capt FO Capt FO Year 20 179,000 107,400 139,200 83,520 And finally Qantas Fleet 747-400 A330 747-300 767 747-400 A330 747-400 767 Rank capt capt capt capt fo fo fo fo Year 12 206 197 191 176 136 130 126 116 11 205 195 190 175 135 128 125 115 10 204 194 188 174 133 127 123 114 9 202 193 187 173 132 126 122 113 8 201 191 186 172 131 125 121 112 7 199 190 184 170 128 122 118 109 6 198 188 183 169 125 119 116 107 5 196 187 182 168 122 116 113 104 4 195 186 180 167 117 112 109 100 3 193 184 179 165 115 109 106 98 2 192 183 177 164 110 105 102 94 1 190 181 176 163 106 101 98 90 sadly nothing anywhere near the $500K sprouted in the paper. In this industry, its WHO you know, not What you know. the usual path is get a CPL licence, some multi engine time if possible, then head for the bush, Northern WA and NT to get the first job, then work up to there.. or the Cadetship option.. depends on your situation as to which path you would like. or another is, RAAus licence, eventually get an instructor rating, and build hours that way, but good instructors love to teach, and students will know if your just there to build hours for the next level job. or, keep the well paying job, and instead of spending $100K plus, just buy your own aircraft for half that, and enjoy flying whenever you want!
  10. sadly the Aviation industry is not a real big earner, unless you make it to airline level, even so, only after a huge expenditure in training. at 32, your not to old, but what exactly do you want to do? instructing? airline? charter etc. its a long and expensive, but very rewarding career experience wise. try a few different places for TIFs as each will be different, eg, Red Baron at Bankstown is a little more expensive, but will train you on a different level to most others, using RAAF military techniques so you will get a PPL or CPl, as well as be aerobatic rated at the same time. (not as an added extra) then there is the recreational flying path, which is substantially cheaper and just as much, if not more fun.
  11. warm up times havnt changed much, oil has to be minimum 50 degC so it flows properly through the filter without causing resistance
  12. That would be Rylstone Aerodrome and Airpark. Lovely spot to fly in, just dont touch down as you hit the hum at the intersection pointing east.
  13. welcome to a very exclusive club! of the Billions of people on earth, you are now a member of the few who can now fly above it!
  14. i think those that dont can sometimes have issues with flooding carbies,
  15. that website itself should be in a museum! the 1990's called and wants its webpage back!
  16. welcome, survey done, interesting topic, especially since being exposed to aerobatic flying and spinning, what i considered risky last month now today is quite fun and safe.
  17. i just cover part of the oil cooler, even at -4 OAT, oil was 90 deg, and coolant sat around 75.
  18. i think at only 2.5 hrs, dont worry to much about it, you will get better with experience.
  19. look as far ahead as possible... if your driving a car at 110Kph, you dont look just in front of the car, you look way up ahead, same goes for take off and landing flare. once you get about 30 kts, look right to the end of the runway and thurther. you will find it a lot easier to keep in the centre.
  20. sadly CASA is answerable to no one.
  21. Nice looking Savannah as well.
  22. Sadly it has been an unusually bad start to the year, could be caused by the weather, the past 2 years summers have been atrocious flying seasons, and now we having periods of very good flying, so of course, flying activity increases, and sadly, so do the accidents. dont forget, that the Media reports on every single aircraft accident that happens, and usually gets the story spectacularly wrong, with huge over dramatisations, occasionally they get it accurate. also, being an aviation forum, every incident will get discussed at length as well. Aviation incidents are probably the most over dramatised and heavily reported accident that can happen, outside of nuclear accidents, so to the general public, flying is dangerous. even a manoeuvre as common and safe as a g0-around will make the papers if passengers are on board. If the media reported every single car accident with the same vigour, you would never drive again.
  23. you shouldnt need any markings, you can feel where the stick is through your hands. if its a centre stick, in normal cruise, the stick might be level with your knees, when doing stalls, its might be right back in your crotch, so when you feel the stick is approaching your crotch area, where you remember it being during stalls, then its a good bet you will be near the stall.
  24. news reporting it was an RV-12 on its maiden flight
  25. if the elevator/stabilator can be trimmed at the stall position, then wouldnt the stick still be in aft position? possibly not at the exact position of the stall with flap up, but very close? there is a solid cable or rod connection, how could the yoke still be relativly normal yet the elevator/stabilator be in a position close to a stall? when trimming the savannah to fly at 40 kts, the trim tab is a long way down, holding the elevator in a up position, and the stick position reflects that, though there is no force needed by me to hold it there.
