  1. What is this CD of which you speak? Will it fit in my 5¼" drive?
  2. Great memories, I've lost count of how many times I've traversed the Pacific on 747's, starting with the -100. Vividly remember first SP returning from SFO - when we overflew Hawaii I almost called the hostie to inform the crew they'd forgotten to stop in Honolulu (SP was the first nonstop San Francisco to Sydney). And the many times pre-911 I got to sit up front for takeoffs and landings, lots of fun with a couple of hairy moments etched in my memory - but overwhelming impression was the professionalism of the crews and their fondness for the Queen of the Skies. It also led to me taking up flying. Will miss her ...
  3. In the early 70's I lived in Strathmore, with the Essendon boundary fence the other side of the road. Our house was directly opposite the runup bays for 26, and I have memories of lying in bed listening to the Bristols doing their runups prior to making their dash across Bass Strait every evening. Lots of noisy burping and farting before they were properly warmed up - but music to my ears! Not so much appreciated by GF though!
  4. I was meant to be in the South Tower that morning for a meeting with Oppenheimer on level 34 at 9am. Instead, for various reasons I was in Boston watching it on cable - and it was planes that did it, no doubt in my mind.
  5. Here's the cartoon - I think the cartoonist was also a helicopter pilot.
  6. Whenever there is a VOR around, I tune to it so it's there if I need. Navigation by autopilot/GPS though.
  7. The problem is, you can't overcome the autopilot in pitch - it will just keep trimming against you, which is what happened in this case. In roll, yes, you can overcome it.
  8. Brother in law witnessed bloke fined by cops after leaving Bunnings with a plant - not essential says plod.
  9. Interestingly to note that pattern of n4, n6 (06, 14, 16, 24, 26, 34, 36, ...) - must be a reason, I've tested it up into the thousands, a new challenge to work out why!
  10. If price was $12, then $144 in bucket. Each takes out 7 lots of $10, leaving $4 which is not enough for big bro to take out his $10. So cannot be $12. Using $14 as example, there is $196 in bucket. Each takes out 9 lots of $10 ($180 total), leaving $16. Older brother takes his $10, leaving $6 in the bucket. Older bro owes younger bro $4 to make up his $10. I have made the assumption that "the balance" means to make the younger up to $10 - if we assume it means to equalise them, then he pays out $2 in all cases.
  11. Answer is $4 - and the price per plane could be 6, 14, 16, 24, 26, 34, 36, 44, 46, etc.
  12. Thermal coal exports in 2018 were 54% by tonnage and 38% by value - DIST figures.
  13. Another KTI ...
  14. With a decent headwind and holding it near the stall you could go backwards in the Jabs ...
  15. My first preference is to fill both wing tanks to the brim - then I know how much I've got. If loading prevents that, then one tank full, other to tab, or both to tabs - again I know how much I've got. I don't really trust the dipstick - often in hire craft they get swapped around - missing dipstick, oh just grab the one from the Cessna/Warrior over there! I guess more reliable than the gauges, but maybe not much more.
  16. December 2005 - two Warriors at Coldstream. BZA still flying today!
  17. Just looking at my last post, it could be read a couple of ways. What I meant was, given the conditions I was about to request Special VFR anyway but tower beat me to it. Controllers can't offer it, you have to request it. But as antonts points out, they can see that you're not VFR so if you don't request it they'll advise it is available, just to keep everyone legal!
  18. I've only used it twice, with no problems. Once was into Essendon, controller advised "Special VFR is available" before I could request it.
  19. The POH for the Warrior recommends running on the first tank for 1 hour, then second tank for two hours, then back to the first (assumes tanks full initially, each tank roughly 2.5hr). I usually follow that recommendation.
  20. Recently in Mumbai - and it's bizarre that the "Towers of Silence" are effectively in the middle of the city, exclusive real estate.
  21. A friend, following her late husband's wishes, scattered his ashes from their 172. Unfortunately, they all blew back into the aircraft, apparently took months to get rid of it all. So just "out the window" won't work!
  22. I always reckon it takes 2 to Tango!
  23. Given you can see the sky through it, it has to be a Skye Trek Sky Seeer, er Skyseeker, MK 111.
  24. Cracker Jack Sport?
  25. I remember the briefing I was given by a 747 Captain in the days when you could sit up front pre-9/11. "If you see me and the First Officer get up and run out the door - follow us, and quickly!"
