  1. I whinge about the narrow runway as I can't see it out the side when I'm coming in to land. Does a B200 even fit?
  2. I was there yesterday and will be back today. I fly an RV-6A and his is an RV-9A. I'm planning to go as often as I can in the next few weeks to test fly the 9.
  3. Sorry guys, how about a little respect for the family and friends of the missing pilot. Referring to someone as 'brain dead' isn't helpful to anyone. Myriad of reasons why a PLB may not have gone off, and the obvious one is one I'd rather not dwell on until the facts are known.
  4. Welcome aboard, and good luck with your medical. I'm spending a lot of time going backwards and forwards to Tyabb at the moment. My plane is based at Moorabbin and my partners very new plane is currently at Tyabb. Hence regular ferry flights. Seems like a really nice friendly airport and club.
  5. Interesting. when you click on the link in the RaAus excerpt above, or go directly from the Department of Infrastructure and click on 5. Proposed new eligibility criteria for the ASIC and MSIC schemes you get a The page you are looking for cannot be found..
  6. Shows up in AvPlan as Y04X. Probably coming from the Country Airstrip Guide, although hard to check on my phone.
  7. I bought a KTI recently to replace the GME one I had that was out of battery life. The KTI was cheaper than a new battery, and has a 10 year battery life. They are in Cheltenham, near Moorabbin Airport. kti
  8. Really interested in this thread. Bought my RV at Jandakot and flew it back with a friend about 8 years ago. And planning a trip to WA in the RV9A later this year. Spoke to the RV owners at Avalon who had flown in from the west and their advice was that September - early October would be the best time to go. But can't claim any personal knowledge.
  9. From their Facebook page: 1770 CASTAWAY 4 February at 15:28 · **NEWS FLASH** OPERATIONS ARE SET TO START FROM 6 FEB! 1770 Castaway are pleased to announce that we will start operating our tours again from Monday 6th Feb....but with a new twist!!! After much consideration, Woody & I have decided not to go back into commercial aviation so as a result we intend to change our means of transportation to/from camp to using a high speed rubber inflatable brig boat, similar to the ones the water police use. This will still provide passengers with a super fun, adrenaline filled & wet ride to/from camp whilst maintaining safety as a high priority. Implementing the boat into our operation will take upto 3 months to arrange, so in the meantime...our Survivor camp will be the only camp running and transportation to/from camp will be with the iconic pink 1770LARC, an amphibious vehicle that can drive on land & boat through water. Trips will operate every Monday, Wednesday & Saturday to Survivor and any currently booked passengers can move/upgrade to one of these trips, just call us on 0401 770 572 to arrange. We've also got a super $100OFF promo going too, so when you book online, make sure you enter the code "100OFF" when you check out. Once again, MANY THANKS for all the support everyone has given us through these concerning times...we didn't want to give up on our awesome & unique adventure experiences either so it's exciting times ahead now with the soon-to-be, new & improved, 1770 Castaway "Boat-In" Island Adventures!
  10. I never understand the purpose of posts like this. A lady died in this crash and others are injured. Flippant comments re the choice of business names doesn't add to anyone's understanding of how the crash occurred. And could add to the angst of people involved. Sorry .. but that's just how I see it.
  11. Great post. Thanks.
  12. Thanks for the reply. Google hasn't found me much documentation. I've done many glide approaches (idle engine) in the last 8 years and never had an issue in the flare. As soon as the weather cools down I'll go and have a play at altitude.
  13. Hi, help me out here. Where is this documented? I fly an RV6A and haven't noticed this when landing, or heard of it before. Happy to admit my ignorance but would like to learn more.
  14. When I first needed reading glasses I used graduated glasses that were clear at the top so I could just leave them on whilst flying. The transition lens worked well for me and I didn't need sunglasses. Gradually I needed long sighted correction as well. Still find the graduated transition glasses work well. You need to carry a spare anyway so these can be a different tint. These days I use multi focal contact lens and wear sunnies. Works for me. Peripheral vision is fine. I always carry backup glasses though.
  15. Yep, and do you see this as a problem? Particularly given the proximity to Moorabbin Airport and many students flying in that area. Just wondering.
  16. This one may be of interest. About 30 minutes from Townsville CBD. Facilities - Bluewater MFS
  17. I love to fly my RV, but my home http://www.facebook.com/justsublime has frontage to the Nicholson River and is near the Gippsland Lakes. Lots of water :)
  18. Welcome Aboard - The sunshade was the first thing I bought after I bought my RV-6A and flew it back to Moorabbin from Jandakot. Methinks I would have turned into a boiled lobster otherwise.
  19. Wow! and welcome aboard! Now this is an aircraft that would work at my place!
  20. Welcome aboard!
  21. Moorabbin's ERSA entry has the following, so I guess they want you to climb. Suggestion above re grabbing a copy of the VFRG is a good one. DEPARTURES 4.4. VFR ACFT departing into Class G airspace must depart the CTR on an extended leg of the circuit. 4.5. Departure altitude - climb to 2,000FT AMSL or higher, cloud permitting.
  22. Interesting that even if it is notammed they have to reopen the runway within 15 minutes. If they were in the middle of grading the runway might have been a tad bumpy? First pass over my farm's dirt runway usually leaves it horrible. It's only when it's finished that it's smooth. And if they were resurfacing or carrying out other works it might have been seriously not possible to have the runway usable in a rush. Just wondering.
  23. Welcome aboard!!
  24. Hope the families involved in the midair aren't reading this thread. But I learnt in metric at school in the 70's.
