  1. Hi Keith, I was actually quite pleasantly surprised - the wooden prop has performed OK since it was refitted. It has been a bit bumpy on the occasions I have flown since the refit, but my impression would be a slightly slower rate of climb, but in cruise it is about the same as the Bolly (pretty much the book figures). I guess a slightly different pitch/shape would be one factor..... Rgds, Neil
  2. Hi Keith, Sad, but true. Recently removed a 2 blade Bolly from our Gazelle and refitted the original Allsize wooden one so as to remain 24 rego compliant. Agree that something needs to be done to allow more efficient modern props to be fitted. Spoke to a number of CAR 35 engineers on the subject, but none seemed to know how to go about such things, and would have charged an arm and a leg in any case, so we gave up. Cheers Neil
  3. Hi Mal, Hmmm - will have to ask Terry about that! Cheers Neil
  4. Have read both those - excellent stuff.... What are the details for "Flak" - have not come across that one....
  5. They (RAA) contact the registered owner of the plane as per the rego, either seen or heard on broadcast. They ask who was flying at that time.
  6. Hi guys, Same goes for AvPlan..... Cheers Neil
  7. Hi Greg, Great video! Thanks for posting. Are you aware of the B-24 Liberator restoration being done in a hangar just outside Werribee? Happy to take you down there if you are out my way..... Cheers, Neil
  8. Hi Maj, Totally agree! I was lucky enough to visit Fantasy of Flight a few years back when on a business trip to Orlando, and had a free day. Brilliant facility - definitely worth a visit if you can swing it. Featured plane of the day was a Fiesler Storch which did a demo of really slow flight. Went for a flight in the New(!) Standard D-25 - great fun. Also watch a lot of the Kermie Cam footage. Cheers Neil
  9. Yes - a very enjoyable event. Worth flying up (RPT) from Melbourne. We should have put on badges with our "handles" from this site - then we could have put faces to names. Loved seeing Bruce Clarke's Sopwith Pup and the other WW1 kits/planes at Watts Bridge on the Sunday too.... Neil
  10. Good post, FT. Enjoyed it. Cheers Neil
  11. Absolutely brilliant! Very inspiring stuff. Congratulations to Dave Neil
  12. Hi Ryan, Oshkosh 2014 is on my bucket list too. I hope to meet up there with my brother who is coming out from the UK - maybe meet up with you as well! BTW being at Caboolture are you a member of TAVAS (The Australian Vintage Aviation Society)? I am flying (commercial) up to a Meet the Fokkers TAVAS event at Caboolture on Saturday June 15th, so might see you there if so. Cheers Neil
  13. Hi Adam, Well I have been in the Database Performance Support team for a number of years (10+), but I actually retire at the end of the month......which will give more time for FLYING! Mind you, now we have the wooden prop back on the Gazelle I also have to be more careful about flying into rain, and given the Melbourne weather......oh well, I have lots of books to read too. Cheers Neil
  14. not forgetting..."military intelligence"...."almost unique" etc
  15. Hi, I also have the Oracle stunt plane for a screensaver as I also work for Oracle here in (not very) sunny Melbourne! Which area do you work in? Cheers Neil

  17. Hi Chezza, Welcome from a fellow Pom - I come from Leigh-on-sea, and moved out here to Melbourne about 15 years ago. I have a mate lives near Horncastle in Lincs, and last year when I visited we went to East Kirkby to see that Lancaster they have, Newark Air Museum, and the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight base. Lincoln is great for vintage aviation fans like me! Hope you get flying soon! Cheers Neil
  18. The Australian Vintage Aviation Society - check out www.tavas.com.au Cheers Neil

  22. Hi Steve, Thanks for posting. It is good that the brave young men that gave their lives so long ago are still remembered and appreciated so long after the event. Cheers Neil
  23. Tut tut, now Phil. I lived in the UK for 40 years and the electoral system in the UK is just as much a load of bollocks, if not more so, than in Australia. What hacks me off here is that you HAVE to go and spoil your ballot paper even when you think all the candidates are *ssholes - otherwise they fine you. Show me a country with a perfect electoral system and I will move there. All the parties in the UK think the first past the post system is crap......until they get elected by it, then suddenly they forget how bad it is..... And wouldn't it be nice to have the resources and money to do things properly. However one of our state politicians recently found out the hard way that this is fairytale land. While in opposition he promised to "implement ALL the recommendations of the BushFire Commission Report". Then his party got elected, and he realized he would have to triple everyone's taxes to fund putting all powerlines underground as per the recommendations. So his options were :- a) triple taxes, implement all the recommendations, and guarantee being voted out at the next election b) leave taxes alone, implement SOME of the recommendations that could be afforded, and hopefully remain elected (ie do the same as the previous party....) Guess which he chose. A good lesson in reality. Keep smiling. Neil
  24. Hi Seb, It is my understanding that Lethbridge have a C120 under RA-Aus rego all ready for tailwheel endorsements. Suggest you call Bruce Vickers and speak to him about how he got it registered. 0400849031. Cheers Neil
