  1. For clarity, the pilot's name is Paul Bennet as mentioned in previous posts , but he isn't the Paul Bennet aerobatic pilot.
  2. Iridium plugs don't foul easily. I had a Yamaha WR426, and due to their carby design, they would foul normal plugs occasionally. Changed it out with an Iridium plug and never had a problem after that.
  3. Talking about Toilet rolls, when on RAAF adventure training on Moreton Is. We played bog roll soccer on the beach at night. What you do is soak the bog rolls in white spirits or something similar ( for christ sake, not petrol) . Then you light it up and kick it around like a soccer ball. It looks speccy when it un rolls in the air when on fire. We obviously played it on the beach so nothing else caught on fire.
  4. I wouldn't worry about the balloon, back in the day it was a good execise to blow up balloons in the cockpit ( one at a time or have two blown up ones and stow them behind the seat) then open the door and let them out. The name of the game was to do a 180 degree turn and chase the baloon then pop the baloon with the airframe or prop. Good fun, of course this was done in the nineties when flying ultralights was more fun and we didn't have the do gooder, you can't do this or you can't do that crap we have now.
  5. The RAA cannot issue licenses either, they can only issue certificates.
  6. Ultralight flying was so much simpler 20 years ago.
  7. We haven't had training oversight for the last 30 years, why start now. We are just going through a bad patch ATM.
  8. How exactly is employing a Training Co - ordinator going to stop the aircraft crashes ? Waste of money IMO. Pilots have to be responsible for their own actions and get their sh*t together, somebody shining a seat in Canberra isn't going to save them.
  9. So we are being told that we are losing our magazine because we cannot afford to keep it. Then why in the hell is the RAA now advertising for a Training co-ordinator with the wage being $70 000 plus super ?
  10. Remember folks, there is a difference between the words loose and lose.
  11. Welcome Fishla
  12. All the Tecnams I have flown have also had the centre brake and steerable nose wheels. It's a great set up IMO.
  13. I used to fly that plane a few years ago when it was brand new and operationg out of Boonah.
  14. Welcome mate
  15. So you don't think that 7 billion people on the planet is being over populated ?
  16. Nobody is perfect and I like the bloke.
  17. Welcome Carl
  18. I think people are analysing this too much. Pilots should be able to control the stick or yoke with either left hand or right hand and not have it worry them even switching hands during flight if they want to. As per shooting and unless they are using a scope. The proper technique using open sights is shoot with both eyes open. I am right handed but left eye dominant which worked fine in my 15 year and 65 000 round pistol shooting career. I always shot both eyes open lining up the sights with my left eye. When shooting rifles with open sights I still shoot with both eyes open but being right handed I have learn to aim using my right non dominant eye.
  19. Sounds like the amateur media we have in this country is up to their usual worst.
  20. Interesting thread, I never felt it difficult either way, I fly both left handed and sometimes right handed on the stick. Depending on what aircraft I am flying. Never given it much thought either hand feels natural. Although I can bat left or right handed in cricket but right handed is more natural as I am right handed.
  21. After reading many posts IRT Jabiru engines bores corroding if not ran every week or two. I am guessing a lot of Jabs are not started for months. That would seem to me to be a possible cause of a lot of the engine problems. What do you guys reckon? Ps- sorry for the old thread revival.
