Yenn, I believe you are referring to a BA 777 in 2008 that had ice crystals forming in the fuel lines on final to 27L at LHR. They manage to just clear traffic on the perimeter road & landed on the grass about 300 metres short of the runway. Only one serious & 4 minor injuries. Aircraft was written off. Pete

We were paying $550 but have just received an account (9 months late) for this financial year for $2750 !!!! No advance warning & no justification. Salad Fingers is my hero M61A1. Just love the utter wierdness

What should you reasonably expect to pay for airport usage fees for a 3-axis ultralight. I mean the annual fee you would pay, on top of hanger rental, to use the taxiways & runways, say on an airfield within 90 minutes drive from a major CBD.

I agree that the management team have a lot on their plate at the moment, but hey, they have had 2 years to plan since the last show & it's not as if this is the first time they have been at the show. Perhaps I will consider volunteering next time once I have finished nursing my wife through a particularly nasty bout of chemo/stem cell transplant therapy. I thought the ASRA display was terrific & the glider mob even had a simulator. Pete

Hi all...Not wanting to being critical of the volunteers manning the tent, but seriously, is this the best we can do? I visited the tent with my flying buddy on Friday around 4pm to find ...a tent with some trestle tables inside, a section of a plywood & timber fuselage & a few people milling around inside. Nothing on the outside to say "Hey, come in & talk to us about this great sport." Nothing inside the tent to grab your attention & no-one came up to acknowledge our existence or say G'day. Sure, there was a roped off area with a few RAA registered aircraft sitting in it, but no-one in attendance to talk to anyone about the displayed aircraft. By comparison, all the USA visiting aircraft had enthusiastic personnel willing to engage in conversation, anyone showing interest.......Very unimpressed.

X-plane 10 on my iMac (also runs under Windows). Runs beautifully with orthophoto scenery of the UK. Would love to be able to run it with all options maxed, but don't think the computer has yet been developed that could do that!! One thing I dislike in v10 is the so-called plausible world. I think the roads & buildings look cartoonish & much prefer to use 3rd party add-on orthophoto scenery.I prefer X-Plane to FSX (which I also run under Bootcamp on the iMac). Get a much better frame rate with X-Plane, although FSX has a huge resource in add-ons. Interesting to see more 3rd party add-ons are being developed for X-Plane now that the MS team have been disbanded for over 2 years. Have recently installed UK photo scenery & it's pretty realistic.

Avsim Online or Flightsim.com both have a huge range of downloadable freeware in aircraft, scenery etc

Hi Shags, It's actually very roomy in the width department, more width than a Cessna (according to the agent). Seats aren't bad but my backside is only comfortable for the first 2 hours!! Leg room is reasonable & with a low coaming the view is sensational. Getting in & out requires a little flexibility & I can see that getting harder as the body gets less pliant with age. Regards Pete

Hi all, We are taking the trusty X-air on the next Megafauna trip to Goolwa. We are planning on flying from Barwon Heads & meeting up with the rest of the gang in Horsham. We will have ground support to Horsham & onwards to Goolwa, but may need some assistance on the return trip. Are there any members based in Horsham, Naracoorte or Ararat who might be able to help with fuel pick-up &/or hangerage ( if the weather goes pear-shaped). Regards Pete

Guy that taught me to fly, Ian Robinson of Aerial Ads in Moorooduc does skywriting along with banner towing. He tried the "dot-matrix" system of skywriting using 6 aircraft & controlling the whole shebang with laptops. Only saw one attempt over Melbourne quite a few years ago & it was pretty impressive. Never went anywhere, as according to Ian, his main problem was getting 6 pilots in one spot at once!!!

I built the wing for the Pursuit-10 that Eastmeg recently purchased, it's not difficult & maybe he could let you have a copy of the plans;). Then you have the problem of the sail. Perhaps Dianne of Punkinhead could make one using the old sail as a pattern. Or use a sail-maker...Then again public liability may be an issue but it's worth a try. Good luck...Pete -
