The Oaks Flying News

Hello all,

 

Just thought it would be appropriate to post weather related posts here for flying conditions at The Oaks NSW. I would do this on a Friday night every week and outline the expected conditions for flying in Area 21 for the weekend. Perhaps other clubs/areas could have their own.Let me know thoughts on this. Perhaps the moderators would like to have a 'weather specific' section. Here I will post ARFORS and TAFS for our area 21 and any SIGMETS for the weekend each week. This weekend is looking like a mixed bag!

I think this is a great initiative . Thanks . I'm looking out of the window at home , 8 Miles SE of The Oaks and I have to say the weather boys have got it spot on this time..... Not a VFR day thats for sure !! .

I envy you guys Don. Hey, I broadened my horizons a little and went for a fly in the Jabiru today. It's good to be able to now fly 2 aircraft! 110kts...impressive compared to the Bantam!!! Dave, you will be impressed mate. I like it!

 

 

I KNOW WHAT ITS LIKE GOOD ON YOU THE MORE EXPERIENCE YOU GET THE GREATER THE PLEASURE AND DARREN AT 110KTS YOU WOULD ENJOY A TRIP TO HOLBROOK.

G'day Oaks folks, we were planning on a trip up to The Oaks on Saturday having read so much about this field and those who fly out of here. Weather forecast for the weekend looks absolutely perfect for flying, we're planning on getting to The Oaks around 12:00 and look forward to meeting some of you if you're around.

Will be good to meet mate. I will be in jeans and a blue RAA shirt somewhere down at Daves Flying School (or in the Bantam buzzing around somewhere). Fear not, I can't go far in the Bantam. The Drifter will be out and about tomorrow too. Sounds like it will be a good day. You coming in the SportStar?

Where do we line up for a ride?! :big_grin:

Remember, main runway is North/South, all circuits done to the West (opposite side from the town)

 

Airfield elevation ~860ft, circuits @ 1800ft.

 

You can join overhead @ 2300ft from the edge of town.

I called in at the Oaks on Monday and there wasn't anyone there - the gate was closed and chained up:crying:

 

 

Oh dear. I thought atleast John or someone might atleast be there tinkering away with something or other. Best time to visit is Sat/Sun. Why not drive up tomorrow? The weather looks promising:laugh:

 

Further, Arthurs info is useful. Pity some of the airmen that come in forget these things

Yep, we'll be there in the Sporstar and happy to take anyone up who's keen fora ride...no excuse needed to go flying as you all understand. So what's on offer at The Oaks for lunch- BBQ / BYO / shops etc?

Count myself in as one for a ride! Maybe you can come for a ride, I mean scream :ah_oh: in the Bantam. Oaks shops nearby with bakery/charcoal chicken take-away. I will give you a lift in to town no problems.

G'day Matt. Just got home myself. Proved difficult putting planes away in the dark! Was an absolutely fantastic day of flying (I have sunburn to prove it)!! Good to meet Karen aswell. Look forward to the both of you coming out to The Oaks in the future. What can I say about the SportStar apart from what a brilliant little aircraft! Plenty of room to play with in the cabin and a lovely aircraft to fly and to fly in. Visibility fantastic aswell as leg room so that gets a massive plus! If I could afford one at the present time I would most likely think of getting one but hey, what's Lotto for?? Again, great to meet and look forward to seeing you both again. A few pics of Matt (owner) and young John (Proud 15 y/o Jabiru owner and pilot in the SportStar). He was in awe after the flight FYI Matt.

 

 

 

 

 

WOW ..... Looks like I missed out big time at The Oaks yesterday . I was there until about 11.30 am then I had to leave to attend to that dreaded work !! . What a great looking machine . Matt ..... was your Sportstar the demonstrator that Peter Harlow sold ? . I do recall seeing a model in the same colour scheme at Narromine and was wondering if it was the same one .

 

I was over at The Oaks today , and the talk was still of your machine . Thanks for coming up to see us , hopefully , we will see you again in the not too distant future . Oh , why did I miss out .
