The Great Air Rally Committee has announced the dinner speaker for its 10th anniversary bash - Adventurer Lang Kidby OAM.

Featured in his talk will be his brilliant achievement of coordinating the construction of the largest replica aircraft ever built a 1919 Vickers Vimy, which he then flew from England to Australia in the mid 90’s recreating Ross and Keith Smith’s historic flight.

For nine consecutive years the Rally has been blessed with highly entertaining speakers such as round the world adventurers Dick Smith, Jon Johanson http://www.auf.asn.au/johanson.htmland record breaker in a Moth from England to Australia John Fisher. Lang Kidby being the 10th big Great Air Rally Dinner speaker is a timely choice, a high achiever in Australian aviation, renown for similar speaking prowess and his considerable exposure with the ABC TV’s Peking to Paris Car trial.

Pulling together everything from antiques to recreational air craft the rallying event has grown from an annual Northern Victorian inter aero club weekend of social navexing to what Great Air Rally Committee Chairman Paul Phillips says “Has become the focal point as the natural feed in to Avalon Airshow.â€Â.

“Following the Saturday 17th March Air Rally around the district of event host, Shepparton Aero Club, aircrews arriving from all around Australia will that evening enjoy the Rally’s tradition of a gala Saturday dinner with yet another high profile speaker, and the awarding of the navex trophies.

Lang Kidby speaking as an adjunct to the navex awards is appropriate given his mid 90’s recreation of Ross and Keith Smith’s historic flight from England to Australia. This will feature in his speech, as no doubt will some of his adventure in the Peking to Paris overland adventureâ€Â.

“Great Air Rally participants have relished such dinner speakers as John Fisher recounting his remarkable Moth flight and I’m sure all registrants will equally enjoy Lang†Mr. Phillips said.

Sunday 18th March will see GA and RAAus manufacturers and suppliers in a Trial Flight day at Shepparton. This is an event believed to be the first of its kind in Australia where any licensed pilot can book in for a free try out of an aircraft they would consider buying,Shepparton Aero Club is aiming at having a minimum 30 different G.A. and RAAus aircraft types available.

Monday 19th March will see the departure of a fleet of aircraft in the Destination Avalon Air Tour around tourist spots in Victoria enroute to Avalon Airshow.

Pulling out all stops to make the 10th event its best ever, the Rally Committee and its Shepparton Club host have designed something for everyone†event not to be missed
