The pilot and his passenger were flying a Terrier 200L to Bairnsdale about 3:00pm AEST when the plane's redrive belt snapped and the propeller failed. The pilot steered over power lines to land the plane in a farm off Clydebank Road, north of Sale. The plane's engine cover has been ripped off and it is leaking fuel from one of its wings. A 10-year-old girl alerted authorities to the crash. "The person who lives down the road told dad the plane had crashed and then he told me to ring 000," she said.
