I wandered into this a couple of years back Capt. There was about 50 aircraft there.

 

For the first time ever I was approached on my arrival and told by the guy parked next to me that I HAD to tie my plane down because at the last fly-in he went to a Jabiru got caught in a wind gust and hit his! I'm wasn't flying a Thruster!

 

Aside from that it was an ok gathering with a number of basic rag and tube jobs which it was all about.

Yarrawonga Sport Aviation Fly-In

 

Yes Geoff, the event is definitely on with both GA and RAA aircraft welcome......

 

This event is being held on Saturday 28th March with option of a dinner in the evening and a leisurely departure on the Sunday and is run by the Lightweight Aircraft Association (LAA) and the Yarrawonga Aerodrome Committee.

 

The LAA is a club of builders and enthusiasts who meet at the Hampton RSL on the first Monday of each month. Their website is www.lightweightaircraft.asn.au/.

 

Yarrawonga Aerodrome has a farsighted aviation policy and their air park development is worth checking out.

Geoff, I have not seen anyone camp under wing at this event in the past, although it was advertised as an option for 2007. I have always booked a motel, but there are caravan parks. You could check out the accommodation here... Yarrawonga - Mulwala is The Heart of Sun Country on the Murray !

I will be flying a J230 up from Tyabb just for the Saturday. Hope you can make it there.

Myself and ahlocks are confirmed out of Wagga X 2 for Saturday only (in about 10 and out about 3) ........... but I think that he is a bit concerned that he will be stuck with a flock of Jabiru pilots enjoying themselves all day.

 

Does anyone know of any other SportStar or Rotax owners who would be game enough to venture all that way to Yarrawonga?

 

Or would one of the 100's of J owners like to pretend that they own a low wing aluminiminiminium Rotaryaxe sculpture, so that Steve has someone to talk to?

 

You'll do Slarti, as you are half way there. Do you reckon you will be able to be there?

Nice to hear that I'd be barely adequate in the non-jabiru conversation department. What if I just talk about my engine?

 

Yep - should be there. Got an oil change to do before I leave. Should be able to get there middayish. Might have time to put the wheel spats back on too. Have to engineer a new way to attach them to my new Matco wheel axles. Had a couple of stripped threads on the outer attachment points. See? Boring already.

I'm happy to talk about my Jabiru engine and airframe all day whilst I'm there if that's what people want. I'm thinking 11am - 3pm.

 

I can throw in some extra words about my brillant carbon fibre propellor whilst I'm at it, whatever gets the 912 boy's blood boiling.

 

PS: just realised I'm an Air Vice Marshal. Need to rework the numbers on those, that was too easy. It just goes to show you though that a lot of hot air and BS can quickly get you to the top, just like in the public service.

I'll have to refer to the log books. Probably 200 hours. It's getting a little battered and bruised actually.

 

I don't have a passenger as yet. Have been emailing a few that I know but the usual's have come up with a negative! Maybe this forum will come up trumps.

Nice to see you blokes at Yarrawonga on Saturday.

 

Ahlocks and I had a great flight there and back in company.

 

But I can't get my photos off my BBerry, so can either of you post a few of the pics that you took?

Yeah - it was great to catch up at last. I would have liked more time to chat, but when my uncle Kel unexpectedly turned up in his trike I had to catch up with him first. I haven't seen him since mum died.

 

I've processed the photos and I'll try to get time to post them tonight.

 

Anne and Peter at Lore of Flight actually gave me their divan to sleep on. Extraordinary hospitality and much appreciated. I expected to sleep in my tent.

I got a few photos, nothing too exciting.

 

'twas a very impressive flying weekend indeed, probably the best two days of flying that I have personally experienced in the last 2 years. Pretty much nil wind everywhere I flew, it was warm but not hot, stuff all turbulence and the plane was flying well with excellent climb rates enabling me to get quickly to high altitudes. I was lucky enough to get hold of a loaned Mountain High supplemental oxygen system to try out for the weekend. Didn't feel any different when using it up high as I levelled off at FL115 due to airspace above. I'll try it again if I can handle the extra weight on the way to Narromine.

 

The fire affected photos are of Marysville. They didn't have a hope there.

I thought that inverted flight was prohibited in those things, or do you have an aerobatic Bing?

Captain, I Blinged my Bing.

 

A couple of takeaways from the day:

 

- He who attempts a straight-in approach doesn't get right of way :-)

 

- Charging your battery by running your engine in your aircraft whilst it is unattended is an ABSOLUTE NO-NO. Please don't anyone ever do this, especially in close proximity to my aircraft.

 

- Pulling your aircraft off the gravel onto the bitumen before starting is a GREAT idea and can save much pain later on, to your wallet and pride.

 

- Marysville is unbelievable. I can't believe that anyone survived.

 

- Ken's borrowed J230 was left cleanly behind in my wake. Sorry Ken, didn't want to glaze my cylinders.

There was talk of heading over to Echuca to find you, but we couldn't agree on how far it was. When I heard 70 miles I lost interest :-)

Brent, she was quite happily purring along at 2850rpm, 23l/h and 115knt. I look after the girl, and the owner looks after me ;)
