bushpilot Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 I dropped the A-Frame on my trike onto the top of my Uniden radio - and it caused a seperation in the antenna plug- i.e. the coax in from the antenna is normally glued (I assume) into the spring-loaded female attachment socket that goes onto the male plug on the top of the radio - but the coax is now seperated from that female plug. Does anyone know where in Sydney I could get it repaired??? Txs Chris
Spriteah Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 If you are talking about the antenna connection that attaches to the radio connector ie: Black cable 50ohm to silver connector it is not normally glued. Depending on the type of connector it may have been soldered on the core and crimped or soldered on the core and a compression fitting to the shield (being the out metal sheath). Its an easy fix if that is what has separated. You can buy a new connector at dick smith or any electronics store and search web for instructions. You will need to be able to solder (small tip). Does that help?
bushpilot Posted January 13, 2008 Author Posted January 13, 2008 Thanks Spriteah - Yep, Im talking the coax that goes into the radio socket attachment thingy; but it seems to be molded in one piece and I dont feel confident getting the 2 connection layers of the coax to marry properly in the plug and then seal it the way that it was. So would rather take it to a shop the specialises in these things... I removed the complete antenna cable with the sockets at either end, so can get them to do it properly. (Whoever 'them' is?) Chris
Spriteah Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 Yep you cannot rejoin it. Have to cut cable and put new plug on it. Go to electronics shop (repair) and ask them nicely. Maybe buy the connector first from dick smith or similar. Should cost about 4-5 dollars max on BNC connector and repair hopefully 10 bucks. If not can post it to me in vic with return mail and I'll do it. It's a five minute job.
bushpilot Posted January 13, 2008 Author Posted January 13, 2008 Thanks Spriteah. It's not the cost I'm concerned about, it's getting it right; so I'm going to take you up on the offer. Will pm you for details. Cheers Chris
Guest Fred Bear Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 Or Mobile One at Camden Airport. They may be able to do something for you there seeing as though they make all those things there. Failing that, Andrews Communications Greystanes.
bushpilot Posted January 14, 2008 Author Posted January 14, 2008 Thanks to all. This is what makes this forum so powerful. People helping others with a common interest. Cheers, Chris
